April 25, 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Freedom, symbolically initiated by the Carnation Revolution. CAAB, due to its social and civic role, could not be left out of this celebration. Therefore, with our members, we decided to start the «Desencravos» project, which will continue for the rest of this year, with a view to promoting youth participation and involvement in democratic processes. Undeniably, with Desencravos: CAAB celebrates freedom!
However, why do we call it “Desencravos”? Our goal is to unlock youth participation and promote peaceful active youth participation in democratic processes. It is essential to unlock participation: recognize the obstacles that paralyze us and be able to develop internal motivations and tools that actually allow young people to get involved in civic affairs. Thus, we got inspiration from the Carnation Revolution to promote youth action and participation.
The first initiative of this project is related to raising public awareness of the achievements of April 25th, through the online sharing of short excerpts from our documentaries «Roads of Democracy» and «Gente da Minha Terra». In these, the interviewees talk about their experience with oppression, with the PIDE, in the Colonial War, always from the perspective of citizens from small rural villages in Portugal. Below, the videos shared online:
