Navegas em Segurança - Poster

We surfed the web safely!

As part of the IPDJ “Navega(s) em Segurança” program, our volunteer Gustavo Ramalho contributed to the digital literacy of children, youth, and adults in Aguada de Baixo, both online and offline. For that reason, Gustavo developed four sessions with 15 participants each. In essence, the distribution of groups depended on the specifics and availability of the participants. Moreover, at the end of each session, there was always an informal gathering to share experiences.

Sessions

Session 1: Cybersecurity – sharing data and photos on social media; receiving content and download links from unknown contacts; the dangers of sharing sensitive data with strangers; and how to create strong passwords; PDF in Portuguese available!

Session 2: Basic precautions when using smartphones: Permissions, georeferencing, and data protection. Sharing sensitive data and photos with identification on social media. Taking care of privacy settings and permissions in various apps. The concept of VPN. PDF in Portuguese available!

Session 3: Digital Parenting: The role of parents in the digital age; Screen time: recommendations and limits; Balance between online and offline; Parenting support platforms and websites (e.g., Safer Internet, Common Sense Media); Parental control tools and security settings; Creating a family “digital agreement”. PDF in Portuguese available!

Session 4: Healthy Online Behavior Management: Digital reputation and digital footprint; Influencers, likes, and social validation; Critical thinking about online content; Signs of digital addiction; Emotional management and self-control when using devices. PDF in Portuguese available!

This initiative reinforces our commitment to empowering citizens from an early age, while also ensuring that parents continue to update their digital literacy skills.
