ATIVITIES

1º PREPARATORY VISIT:

A youth worker/facilitator and a participant from each organization meet in person to finalize the details of the virtual activities and the youth exchange.

2º VIRTUAL AND PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES:

During the preparatory period for the exchange, young people in their local context have sessions based on non-formal education on the concepts of the project and on their role during the exchange. Subsequently, young people develop virtual activities related to the concrete existence of hate speech on social networks. Bearing this in mind, they build the concept of hate speech and research for real examples of hate speech in their social media to be used and discussed during the exchange.

Here are some examples that were shared by our participants:

3º YOUTH EXCHANGE:

40 young people and 8 youth workers meet for 8 days in Águeda to deepen their knowledge about hate speech and outline their action. During this period, they develop activities that promote youth action, both online and offline, and the clear sense that it is responsibility of all of us combating discriminatory behavior. One of the main activities are the narrative and short film construction workshops and consequent video editing with our partner, Cineclub da Bairrada. This organization will help participants develop skills and competences related to using cinema as a tool for social change. These workshops of training in action allow young people to use cinema as a tool to raise awareness and promote reflection on social issues.

The multiplying effect of the project

EVENTS IN THE COMMUNITY:

The short films created in multicultural groups during the YE are  shared with local communities during celebration of International Day of Hate Speech (18th June) and the International Day of Youth Competences (15th July). By doing so, not only youngster share their learning, but also there's a multiplying effect of the results of the project.

Later, the short films were shared on the internet, with the subtitles in order to reach a wider audience.
